Welcome to this series of devotional thoughts based on ‘Roots & Wings’ an integrative Bible study for discipleship, written by Pastor Edmund Chan, our guest speaker at RISE, QB Convention 2015. Our thoughts will be based around five areas: our human weakness, the resulting problem, the radical re-orientation, the critical need, and the empowered life of Roots & Wings.
TOPIC: The presence of an absence (vital spirituality)
The resulting problem: We end up with a secularized spirituality (Matt 6:1-18)
What is the motivation for our acts of Godly service and worship of God? Are we concerned about how others see us and interpret our actions, or is our desire to serve and honour God? Do we look for public affirmation of God saying, ‘well done good and faithful servant’? Are we people pleasers or God pleasers? Brother Lawrence put it this way: ‘Our only business in life is to please God.’
