Roots & Wings review from Sue McGinty (Cairns)
Sue writes: ‘David Loder approached us late last year with a view to using Ps. Edmund Chan’s Study book, Roots and Wings. The focus is Discipleship and consists of an overview and intro into the study booklet. I was asked to use it with my Womens’ group. Here are my thoughts.
‘There are 12 sessions which cover the basics of our faith, and challenge where we are at with the Lord, before we can move on to become disciple-makers ourselves. The eight-fold core curriculum for discipleship is the start of the study and is a suggested memorisation exercise. All the studies are based on this. Some of the sessions are “Let God be God”, “Who’s really in charge”, “Putting first things first”, “Building Deep”, “Passing it on” and “Finishing Well.”
‘It is hard to get through a session each time we meet, as it raises issues that some Christians have never been faced with, and requires some personal disclosure (if people are comfortable doing that). My group have enjoyed it very much – from young in the faith to more mature people – it is valuable for all ages if they are serious about their walk with God. It would certainly challenge those who have not yet totally committed themselves to serving Him.
‘From grass roots Christianity to a full-on disciple for Christ, these studies are well worth doing. Definitely recommend them!’
